Dr. Derralyn Rennix received her Bachelor of Science degree in Toxicology from the Philadelphia College of Pharmacy and Science. After graduation, she moved to Portland and met her future husband. She was not certain that she would remain in Maine until she moved to a farmhouse in Poland and fell in love with the Poland Community. She and her husband were married at the Poland Spring Chapel prior to her attending veterinary school.
Dr. Rennix graduated with honors from North Carolina State University, College of Veterinary Medicine in 2001. Dr. Rennix had many exciting opportunities while attending veterinary school. One of the highlights of her veterinary training was when she participated in a research project where she helped to capture and tag wild dolphins off the coast of North Carolina. She also participated in one of the first established veterinary MASH units for animal hurricane victims. Dr. Rennix also dabbled in the showing and breeding of Whippets.
After graduation, Dr. Rennix returned to Maine where she worked as an associate veterinarian for 6 years. Dr. Rennix realized her dream to be back in the Poland community with the purchase of Poland Animal Hospital in July 2007. Dr. Rennix prides herself on being a primary care veterinarian and is honored to serve the Poland community. Her goal is to provide excellent patient care with a personal and hometown touch.
Much of how Dr. Rennix practices veterinary medicine has been influenced by her experiences with her own pets. Her Whippet, Finn, suffered a spinal injury and has been paralyzed in the rear legs for the past 7 1/2 years. Finn uses a mobility cart to get around. Finn, now 16 years old, has taught her the true meaning of love and unparalleled devotion to an animal. Dr. Rennix strives to incorporate this lesson into the care of all her veterinary patients.
Dr. Rennix enjoys spending time with her husband and their 2 whippets, Cane and Oscar. She enjoys quiet walks in the woods, skiing, reading, and watching the Patriots.
