What To Expect

We appreciate your selecting Poland Animal Hospital for your pet health care needs. We want your experience with our animal hospital to be positive during your visit.
For the protection of all the pets entrusted to our care, we must set some policies and standards that apply to every guest.

Patients being admitted to the hospital for scheduled surgery or medial drop off treatments may be checked in to the hospital by appointment between 7:45 am and 8:30 am. For safety, your pet should be fasted before surgery as well as any visit that may require sedation or anesthesia, including xrays. Please remove their food by 9:00 pm the night before surgery. They may have water up until the time they come into the hospital. If your pet is less than 4 months of age, has diabetes or is an exotic/ pocket pet such as a rabbit or rat, please call us to receive our recommendations specific for your pet.

Please allow approximately 15-20 minutes for admission for surgery. The admitting technician or staff member will complete a Hospital Authorization Form with you at this time. Please be sure you provide the best phone numbers to reach you for follow-up communication. Most surgeries are completed and ready for discharge by early afternoon. If you have not heard from us prior, please call the hospital after 3:00pm for a progress report and to set up a discharge appointment if one has not been set up prior.

To ensure that all of our patients receive prompt and thorough attention, Poland Animal Hospital operates on an appointment-only basis, with the exception of emergencies. We make every effort to see all patients on time. Unfortunately, emergency visits may result in delays for clients with scheduled appointments. Emergency cases will be assessed for immediate stability so they may be prioritized according to the urgency.

For the safety of all our patients and clients and so that we may maintain efficiency with our customer service, we ask that all dogs be placed on a leash and properly controlled before entering and while in our waiting room. All cats should be in a carrier or on a leash. Please plan to arrive 5-10 minutes prior to your appointment time to allow time for any required paperwork or questioning.

We understand that circumstances may arise that may prevent your keeping your appointments. In the event that you need to cancel your pet’s appointment, we ask that you notify us at least 24 hours in advance.

Pharmacy Policy:

Please note that all prescriptions require an active veterinarian-client-patient relationship.

Many prescriptions require your pet to be examined before dispensing. Some prescriptions will also require blood work or additional testing prior to re-filling. All prescriptions require an active veterinarian-client-patient relationship. This ensures that your pet is healthy enough to handle the potential side effects of some prescriptions and provides further confirmation that the medication is appropriate for your pet’s current condition.

Please allow at least 24 hours for pharmacy requests. We ask that you do not come to the hospital until you have received confirmation to pick up your order. Special diet orders or compounded medications can take up to 7 days.

In compliance with state and risk management guidelines, all medications are non-returnable. This policy is to protect your pet from receiving items that may have been tampered with, improperly used or handled.

A good pet health insurance policy frees you from having to make decisions about your pet’s care based on financial worries and instead allows you to focus on getting your pet the best veterinary care available.
